The action "A comic for women with cancer" took place within the framework of the "Support Points", a program in collaboration with the illustrator/comic creator Georgia Zachari and the Association of Volunteer Friends of Doctors of Athens (KEFI). It was implemented from September 2021 to February 2022 and was funded by the Public Benefit Foundation for Social and Cultural Work (KIKPE).

The purpose of this action was the creation of an original and interactive comic edition that originates from and is addressed to women with a personal experience of cancer. Following an open call, 25 women from all over Greece shared their personal stories with cancer through interviews that were conducted digitally. Their stories served as the primary material for Georgia Zachari, who visually transformed and composed them into a narrative that goes beyond the boundaries of a typical comic, as it also serves as a call for creation! 

The pilot edition "Stories from the Waiting Room" was printed in 100 copies and spans 56 pages. The plot unfolds in an oncology waiting room of a hospital, where women are waiting for their turn for examination or treatment, engaging in conversations. Throughout the comic, personal stories intertwine and develop into sections covering various themes: from the initial shock of diagnosis to disease management, the relationship with doctors, interactions with close ones, and changes in the body. Among the anonymously unfolded stories, small creative breaks are incorporated as an encouragement for self-expression and creation. A call for every future reader to intervene in the edition with their own colors and thoughts and make it their own! 

The action and the publication were evaluated through anonymous questionnaires and focus groups, and their impact motivates us to continue with a further development of this project. For more information on the evaluation, you can read here.
